“Stolen Hope” is sequel to the national bestseller, “Rise of the Sun Prince” and “Shattered Dreams”, in the new spiritual and motivational series “Ramayana – The Game of Life” being written by Shubha Vilas.

The book, being a sequel, narrate story from 11th year of exile into forest of Rama.  This story is not just a story of Rama but this is philosophic tale of everyday life of all of us. We all have some stolen hope in our life and feel loss of our living life. The book reaches us to handle temptation and exploration beyond our comfort zone and give hope in our negativity.

Narrative is very simple compare to minute complex details of story and goes philosophical when philosophy slips into its way. I miss intensified drama and philosophy, which was part of last book but this book offer many less popular mythological stories. Writing style is lucid, crisp and quite engaging. To keep simple uses footnotes to describe backgrounds details, explanations and short takeaway points. The footnotes give deeper insights to each character and situation.  If you try to read it along; then the pace of story is hampered, but surely a reader may not want to ignore.

I find these words very interesting in many perspectives – environment, female feticide, tribal rights, taxes, protection and  governance:

 “O lord, you are not only the master our heart but also the master of these woods. Just as it is the womb’s duty to protect the fetus, it is the king’s duty to protect its citizens wherever he is. A quarter of the merits of our sacrifice and penances go to the ruler. Our only wealth comes from austerities and penances. The investment needed to grow this wealth is that of total dependence on God. To grow our wealth of austerities, we will no effort to protect ourselves. So the service to protect us totally rest on your shoulders now.”

The Bestseller She Wrote

A story written with difference has usual but well crafted plot of ambition, love, like and mistake. I decided to drop this book once, at its cover… “soon to be a motion picture”, motion pictures is one of my dislike in literature. But, a master storyteller certainly knows how much is how much. The story with appropriate pace and words arrested my mind and heart for the weekend. Love, prejudice, betrayal, strength, and ultimate winning of great family values seem to be time-tested concept of Indian masala movies. A reading reveals the author kept in mind possibility for a movie and focused in that way on play, pace and dialogue. One good thing, characters speaks themselves not the writer.

It engaged me with real life characters, but… at point to point it connects and disconnects with big names until I realize, it talk about none… a fiction. However, reference of real persons, events and sequence make book interesting and give a real feel to reader.  Author has firsthand knowledge of IIM, Banking, Writing and Publishing, it well reflects in the book.

This is story of an extremely successful author who is doing a mistake. She is equally competent young aspiring promising but more ambitious.  The story, about relationship, has element of romance, drama and light dose of mystery.

The book has small chapters. Earlier chapters it look like a love and romance but slightly light mystery take shape. Readers seem to know, what may be in background and want to confirm. Interestingly, It happen with perfect pace. When Mystery unfold, it suddenly turn into usual drama and more than just before end, you seems to lost interest as story has some more pages.

This book may also be a utility for younger generation of aspiring storytellers. It unfolds many aspects of writing, publishing, publicity and of course book launch. Book  publishing part may  be read as a case study for budding writers and others interested in career in publishing industry.

Author did best when it kept the mistake a mistake without any usual justification. However, author seems to typecast the background the girl; either to give some sympathy or justification. However, all this information may be more dramatic. At the end, when mystery unfold, it lost second relationship somewhere in deep-sea, a story which may be also be equally crafted. I am hopeful, in motion picture we may have more to know. Authors and film – makers may keep some mystery for future ventures.

मैला आँचल

प्रकाशन के साठ वर्ष बाद पहली बार किसी क्षेत्रीय उपन्यास को पढ़कर आज की वास्तविकता से पूरी तरह जोड़ पाना पता नहीं मेरा सौभाग्य है या दुर्भाग्य| कुछेक मामूली अंतर हैं, “जमींदारी प्रथा” नहीं है मगर जमींदार और जमींदारी मौजूद है| कपड़े का राशन नहीं है मगर बहुसंख्य जनता के लिए क़िल्लत बनी हुई है| जिस काली टोपी और आधुनिक कांग्रेस के बीज इस उपन्यास में है वो आज अपने अपने चरम पर हैं, और सत्ता के गलियारे में बार बारी बारी से ऊल रहे हैं| साम्राज्यवादी, सामंतवादी और पूंजीवादी बाजार के निशाने पर ग्रामीण समाजवादी मूर्खता का परचम लहराते कम्युनिस्ट उसी तरह से हैं जिस तरह से आज हाशिये पर आज भी करांति कर रहे हैं| विशेष तत्व भगवा पहन कर आज भी मठों पर कब्ज़ा कर लेते हैं और सत्ता उनका चरणामृत पाती है| गाँधी महात्मा उसी तरह से आज भी मरते रहते हैं…. हाँ कुछ तो बदल गया है, अब लोगों को ‘उसके’ मरते रहने की आदत जो पड़ गयी है|

पता नहीं किसने मुझे बताया कि ये क्षेत्रीय या आंचलिक उपन्यास है, शायद कोई महानगरीय राष्ट्रव्यापी महामना होगा| मैला आँचल भारत के गिने चुने शहरी अंचलों को बाहर छोड़कर बाकी भारत की महाकथा है; और अगर महिला उत्पीड़न के नजरिये से देखा जाये तो आदिकालीन हरित जंगल से लेकर उत्तर – आधुनिक कंक्रीट जंगल तक की कथा भी है| पढ़ते समय सबकुछ जाना पहचाना सा लगता है|

पूर्णिया बिहार की भूमि कथा का माध्यम बनी है| दूर दराज का यह समाज एक अदद सड़क, ट्रेन और ट्रांसिस्टर के माध्यम से अपने को आपको राजधानियों की मुख्यधारा से जोड़े मात्र हुए है| समाचार यहाँ मिथक की तरह से आते हैं| हैजा और मलेरिया, उसी तरह लोगों के डराए हुए है जिस तरह साठ साल बाद नई दिल्ली और नवी मुंबई के लोग चिकिनगुनिया और डेंगू जैसी सहमे रहते हैं|

कथानायक मेडिकल कॉलेज के पढ़कर गाँव आ जाता है; धीरे धीरे गाँव में विश्वास, युवाओं में प्यार, देश में नाम और सरकार में सतर्कता कमा लेता है| नहीं, मैं डाक्टर विनायक सेन को याद नहीं कर रहा हूँ| गाँव जातियों में बंटकर भी एक होने का अभिनय बखूबी करता है| अधिकतर लोग अनपढ़ है और जो स्कूल गए है वो सामान्य तरीके से अधपढ़ हैं| जलेबी पूरी की दावत के लिए लोग उतना ही उतावले रहते है जिस तरह से आज बर्गर पीज़ा के लिए; मगर हकीकत यह है कि जिस तरह से देश की अधिसंख्य आबादी ने आज बर्गर पीज़ा नहीं खाया उस वक़्त पूरी जलेबी नहीं खायी थी|

बीमारी से लड़ाई, भारत की आजादी, वर्ग संघर्ष, जाति द्वेष, जागरूकता और स्वार्थ सबके बाच से होकर उपन्यास आगे बढ़ता है| यह उपन्यास एक बड़े कैनवास पर उकेरा गया रेखाचित्र है जिसमे तमाम बारीकियां अपने पूरे नंगेपन के साथ सर उठाये खड़ी हैं| ये सब अपने आप में लघुकथाएं हैं और आसपास अपनी अनुभूति दर्ज करातीं हैं|

पुनःश्च – मेरे हाथ में जो संस्करण है, उसमें विक्रम नायक के रेखाचित्र हैं| मैं विक्रम नायक को रेखाकथाकार के रूप में देखता हूँ| उनके रेखाचित्रों में गंभीर सरलता झलकती है| इस संस्करण में उनके कई चित्र सरल शब्दों में पूरी कथा कहते हैं| बहुत से चित्र मुझे बहुत अच्छे लगे|
